Kraft Lignin Ethanolysis over Zeolites with Different Acidity and Pore Structures for Aromatics Production

نویسندگان

چکیده

To utilize its rich aromatics, lignin, a high-volume waste and environmental hazard, was depolymerized in supercritical ethanol over various zeolites types with different acidity pore structures. Targeting at high yield/selectivity of aromatics such as phenols, microporous Beta, Y, ZSM-5 were first examined lignin ethanolysis, followed by similar micropore size but acidity. Further comparisons made between fin-like worm-like mesoporous structures their counterparts. Despite depolymerization complexity diversified ethanolysis products, strong found effective to cleave both C–O–C C–C linkages while mild works mainly ether bond breakdown. However, when diffusion gigantic molecules is severe, size, particularly mesopores, becomes more decisive on phenol selectivity. These findings provide important guidelines future selection design appropriate structure promote or other hydrocarbon cracking processes.

Acidity of two-dimensional zeolites.

Hybrid quantum mechanics:molecular mechanics (QM/MM) calculations of absolute deprotonation energies are performed with periodic boundary conditions for Brønsted sites of aluminosilicate bilayers with various Al/Si ratios (two-dimensional zeolite). The supercell method is applied and density functional theory is used. Much lower values are obtained (1042, 1069 and 1091 kJ mol(-1) for Al/Si = 1/...

Changes of Lignin Molecular Structures in a Modification of Kraft Lignin Using Acid Catalyst

The purpose of this study is to modify lignin for better blending with general purpose synthetic polymers. The possible advantages by using this modification would be cost reduction, better physical properties, and biodegradability. In this study, butyrolactone-modified lignin (BLL) and tetrahydrofuran-modified lignin (THFL) were used for aliphatic chain modification of lignin using an acid-cat...

Experimental Studies on the Hydrotreatment of Kraft Lignin to Aromatics and Alkylphenolics Using Economically Viable Fe-Based Catalysts

Limonite, a low-cost iron ore, was investigated as a potential hydrotreatment catalyst for kraft lignin without the use of an external solvent (batch reactor, initial H2 pressure of 100 bar, 4 h). The best results were obtained at 450 °C resulting in 34 wt % of liquefied kraft lignin (lignin oil) on lignin intake. The composition of the lignin oil was determined in detail (elemental composition...

Scaling Relations for Acidity and Reactivity of Zeolites

Zeolites are widely applied as solid acid catalysts in various technological processes. In this work we have computationally investigated how catalytic reactivity scales with acidity for a range of zeolites with different topologies and chemical compositions. We found that straightforward correlations are limited to zeolites with the same topology. The adsorption energies of bases such as carbo...

Structural Characterization of Kraft Lignin for Its Green Utilization

Laboratory-obtained kraft lignins have been studied via elemental analysis (EA), 1H-NMR, FTIR, GPC to analyse the chemical structure. The kraft lignins were subjected to oxidation with H2O2 using Co(salen) as a biomimetic catalyst at mild condition (80oC, 240 min). The kraft lignins isolated from eucalyptus (EKL) and bamboo (BKL) had a low hydroxyl (oxygen) contents, a low molecular weights (~3...
